Since 1969 when the authors first started their orchid hobby their enthusiasm for orchids and experience in finding and growing them gradually increased. As their collection grew in numbers, so did the colourslides. Lecturing about diseases and pests in orchids, fertilizing and distribution of orchids the world over became a task. A trip to the tropics almost became an annual event, travelling into areas some of which have since been destroyed. This has led to this book about their travels, together with a popular approach to orchid science.
The book is in two sections - the first containing information on:
The structure of orchids, Morphology and anatomy; Living processes and functioning, physiology; The human influence on orchids; Geographic distribution and Ecology.
The second section - Travelling the world for orchids - contains hundreds of photos of orchid species with notes from the travels of the authors in Belize, Brazil, Bolivia, Costa Rica, Rwanda, Equador, Thailand, Indonesia, Panama, Sri Lanka, Venezuela and Zimbabwe; fabulous photos.
